Sterlite Group’s demerger to create Sterlite Electric and Resonia is an attempt to unlock full potential of the two entities in the Power sector, which coupled with Serentica Renewables creates a robust value chain offering integrated solutions across transmission, products and clean energy.

In February last year, Sterlite Power demerged its business creating Sterlite Electric for manufacturing transmission cables and equipment and Resonia for the transmission infrastructure business.

Pratik Agarwal, who leads the Sterlite Group, emphasised that Serentica, Sterlite Electric and Resonia are three distinct business units created to sharpen strategic focus and unlock the full potential of its diverse operations.

Agarwal, is the managing director of Sterlite Electric and chairman of Resonia and Serentica Renewables.

“Serentica focuses on renewable energy and decarbonising hard-to-abate industries. Resonia develops and operates transmission and infrastructure assets and Sterlite Electric drives products and technology-led solutions. This structure enables each business to operate independently with clear objectives, faster decision-making and more efficient resource allocation,” he told businessline.

Agarwal emphasised that Serentica, Sterlite Electric and Resonia are three distinct business units created to sharpen the Group’s strategic focus.

While Resonia will focus on developing, owning and operating large-scale transmission and infrastructure assets, Serentica Renewables will cater to the fast-growing commercial and industrial (C&I) sector demand for 24×7 clean power. Sterlite Electric will drive products and technology-led solutions, he added.

Sharing expansion plans, Agarwal said that Serentica aims to install 1,500 megawatt-peak (MWp) of solar power capacity, 1,100 MW wind power and 1,000 MW-hour (MWh) of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in FY27. This will require a cumulative capex of more than ₹15,500 crore.

In FY28, Serentica has plans to install 1,800 MWp of solar power capacity, 1,250 MW of wind and over 1,250 MWh of BESS capacity, which will involve a total capex of over ₹17,000 crore, Agarwal said.

“We aim to capitalise on India’s evolving BOT transmission market, leveraging Sterlite Power’s execution capabilities to deliver high-capacity corridors under greenfield frameworks. We have laid out an ambitious investment roadmap, targeting around ₹1 lakh crore in transmission assets by FY32, which translates into annual portfolio additions of ₹10,000–15,000 crore, reflecting both growth momentum and our long-term commitment to India’s power sector,” he added.

The organisation is targeting a scale up of its assets under management to ₹1 lakh crore by 2030, up from the current ₹35,000 crore, supported by a strong pipeline of projects under the TBCB framework.

“Together, Resonia builds the wires and Serentica supplies the electrons. This integrated value chain positions us to lead India’s transmission and clean-power ecosystem, creating scale, certainty and long-term value,” Agarwal noted.

Green electrons are the new oil. Just as oil shaped global trade and geopolitics over the last century, renewable electricity will define the next, he emphasised.

India is uniquely positioned to be at the centre of this transition, not just as a large consumer, but as a connector and enabler of global clean power flows.

“India can build this future in three ways. First, by expanding long-distance HVDC and submarine cable networks that connect India to its neighbours from Sri Lanka and Nepal to the Gulf Cooperation Council and Southeast Asia, enabling power to move seamlessly across time zones (for example, morning solar generation in the Gulf serving evening peaks in Southeast Asia),” Agarwal explained.

Second, by developing a strong local supply chain for high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, converters and submarine cables, ensuring faster, more reliable and affordable build-out. Third, by leading the creation of market rules and trading frameworks that allow countries to buy and sell renewable power efficiently and transparently, he suggested.

About Resonia

Resonia is one of India's leading developers of power transmission infrastructure, building and operating the grid assets that move electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed most.

Operating in one of the world's largest greenfield transmission markets, Resonia has established a proven end-to-end model — developing critical assets across India's most complex geographies, then monetising them through a disciplined capital recycling strategy. To date, the company has monetised assets worth over US$1 billion, and sponsored IndiGrid, India's first power transmission InvIT, which attracted marquee global investors including KKR and GIC.

Resonia offers a rare combination: world-class execution capability, a demonstrated monetisation track record, and a front-row position in India's accelerating energy transition.
