Sterlite Power (now Resonia) continued to remain optimistic about long-term electricity demand growth in India, even though the power sector was facing regulatory hurdles and financial stress among state distribution companies (discoms). The company believed that rising power consumption, renewable energy expansion, and new transmission projects would drive strong growth in the sector.
The company had filed draft papers with the market regulator for an initial public offering (IPO) as part of its strategy to expand in the power transmission infrastructure and equipment segments. Sterlite Power held about 26 percent market share among private sector transmission developers in India, reflecting its strong presence in the competitive bidding market.
Even though discoms were facing payment delays and financial pressures, the long-term outlook for the transmission sector remained positive because India needed significant investment to strengthen the transmission and distribution (T&D) network. Large renewable energy additions and growing electricity demand across states were expected to create new opportunities for transmission developers.
The company also continued to expand globally, with transmission assets and projects across India and Brazil, while exploring opportunities in grid infrastructure, technology solutions, and energy transition initiatives. The focus remained on building large transmission corridors and strengthening inter-regional power connectivity to support India’s growing electricity demand.
